This wasn't just a trip; it was a testament to our enduring love for ferries, questionable navigation, and the sheer joy of watching Europe whiz by from the comfort of our… well, dashcam!

🚙 From Greece to North Macedonia and Back: Skopje Adventures in Shehzadi! 🇬🇷➡️🇲🇰➡️🇬🇷

Join us — The Vagabond Couple — as we load up our trusty Toyota Tundra, Shehzadi, and set off on another overland escapade (MAP)! This time, we roll out from sunny Greece (see Georgia, Turkey, Greece into North Macedonia: Black Sea Dreams & Bosporus Crossings - Our Overland Journey from Asia to Europe), glide effortlessly across the Evzoni–Bogorodica border (seriously, it was smoother than Greek olive oil), and cruise into the heart of North Macedonia — the capital city of Skopje!

After months of dreaming, mapping, wrenching, and prepping, the Vagabond Couple finally rolled out of their cozy little home in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, with Shehzadi, our trusty Toyota Tundra, growling eagerly under them. The sky was that perfect Georgian blue, the crisp morning air tinged with the scent of pine and the promise of the unknown. We were heading west — toward Europe, toward Africa, toward everything (MAP). This was more than a road trip; this was a transcontinental Silk Road pilgrimage on four wheels, continuing our Silk Road expedition into Turkmenistan.

After exploring Istanbul and Pamukkale in Turkey, we fly from Istanbul to Athens, Greece and immerse ourselves in the cradle of democracy by strolling amidst the majestic monuments of the Acropolis (a UNESCO UNESCO World Heritage site) and the ancient Agora. Later, we wander the charming Plaka neighborhood, savoring delicious souvlaki from a local taverna, all under the watchful gaze of the Parthenon bathed in the golden hues of a Mediterranean sunset.

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of speeding across the sapphire-blue Aegean Sea on a Flying Dolphin hydrofoil to reach the enchanting island of Idra (Hydra), Greece. As the high-speed ferry slices through the waves, the Island called Ύδρα in Greek offers a spectacular view of the coastline and surrounding islands.

Departing from Piraeus, the main port of Athens, this 1.5-hour journey aboard the Flying Dolphin is as exciting as it is picturesque. The sleek, aerodynamic design of these hydrofoils makes them a preferred choice for island-hopping and they offer a quick, comfortable ride that’s perfect for a day trip or a longer stay.
